Bottineau, North Dakota is a city that caters to all the seasons and outdoor recreation. Tommy Turtle, the world's largest turtle sits in a park in the center of town, riding the world's largest snowmobile.  Bottineau is very popular during the winter, snowmobilers and cross-country skiers love the trails around Bottineau and Lake Metigoshe, only twelve miles northeast. Also, the Bottineau Winter Park is a popular destination for downhill skiers during the snowy season.

Summer brings its own delights, and is just as popular with nearby Lake Metigoshe there is a beautiful place for water recreation, boating, fishing, and water skiing.  There are lots of different activities to please all folks, a gold course, State Park, Quilting retreats, camping, hunting with plenty of wildlife variety to satisfy everone. Lake Metigoshi State Park contains a large variety of wildlife, especially birds.  There are over 174 different varieties of birds to be seen at the park.  This includes such beauties as the Cooper's Hawk, Cinnamon Teal and red-necked grebe, to name a few. And much, much more.  Of which we will surely learn more as we get to know the town and people better, make new friends and go exploring ourselves.

The Canadian border is not far away, and the International Peace Garden is not far from Bottineau.  This beautiful park stretches across both sides of the two countries and offer spectacular gardens, and beautiful scenes with something for everyone to enjoy. 

Mystical Horizons is another place to visit, with its modern version of Stonehenge, offers a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside, and the stone and concrete versions of the original Stonehenge are well worth a visit.  Bosseivain, Manitoba offers spectacular artwork, with over 20 giant murals scattered throughout the town.  Rugby, North Dakota has the honor of being the geographical center of North America.  -"that point on which the surface of the area would balance if it were a plane of uniform thickness."

So, there is obviously a wealth of things to explore, discover, visit and learn about.  We are looking forward to exploring the area and being tourists as well as locals!
